The Swan Theatre

The Swan was a theatre in Southwark, London.
No drawing of the interior of The Globe exists, and the sketch of The Swan interior is the nearest record that we have.
In 1596 a Dutch traveller Johannes de Witt made a sketch of a performance in progress at the Swan Theatre. A friend of Johannes de Witt, Arend van Buchell copied the sketch and de Witt added this drawing to his diary.
The sketch by Johannes de Witt no longer exists. He described the Swan as the "finest and biggest of the London amphitheatres", with a capacity of 3000 audience.
